From Cixi To Mao : Of course, if you go to Beijing you have to go to the Palace Museum, known to English speakers as The Forbidden City.  I did it backwards, entering through the Empresses' quarters and exiting through the monumental public areas in the South, a journey which took me from Empress Cixi through many emperors and finally to Mao.

Empress Cixi : Empress Cixi seems to have been responsible both for the collapse of Imperial China, and most of the palaces around Beijing.  Here's from the Summer Palace, her ultimate fantasy palace which bankrupted the country.

A Pretty Good Wall : In 2007, I went to Beijing for Sun Tech Days. I had the last day of my visit free, so I went to see some of the sights.  This is two sections of the Great Wall. I met some folks (actually, the only other English-speaking people) on the bus on the way to the wall.
